Chef/Owner Sofia Karakasidou was born and raised in Thessaloniki, known as the “Queen City of the North”. She recently relocated to the United States, bringing with her a culinary expertise in Greek and Mediterranean dishes. Thessaloniki, Greece’s second largest city and known for its exceptional cuisine and eateries, is at Greece’s crossroad of culinary ideas and trends. Sofia’s family heritage is deeply rooted in that area and her cooking style is a careful blend of Eastern Mediterranean flavors.

The Mediterranean basin—of which Greece is a dominant country—is a complex blend of related flavors and traditions that satisfy all your senses. This is the essence of Kuzina. Sofia brings to fruition a sampling of the traditional and modern tastes of Greece. Dishes are expertly delivered in a light and comfortable café restaurant setting.

Kuzina (simply "kitchen" when translated to English) utilizes the freshest local ingredients to design innovative and traditional Greek cuisine. Every day, guests can enjoy a complete dinner of Authentic Greek dishes, or dine for lunch.

At Kuzina, authentic Greek food is harmonized with the simplicity of the environment it was conceived in. The inspired mixture of modern and Greek traditional elements at absolutely accessible prices sets them apart from other Greek eateries.

Kuzina by Sofia

In many ways, Cherry Hill's Saw Mill Village Shopping Center looks like a thousand other small, brick strip malls. But this international bazaar has bragging rights to a Korean, Japanese and now a Greek restaurant again (as well as a Saladworks and a coffee beanery). It's quite the culinary lineup.

The latest addition, Kuzina by Sofia, opened in September in the location of the former Athens Café. The menu offers traditional and modern Greek dishes inspired by Chef Sofia Karakasidou's native city, Thessaloniki.

The South Beach Diet says, "EAT GREEK!"
"When it comes to eating out at Greek and Middle Eastern restaurants, try kebabs made with lean grilled meat (like lamb, sirloin, and skinless chicken breast) or seafood (such as shrimp, scallops, and salmon). Consider vegetables, whole-grain dishes such as couscous and bulgur, and dips such as hummus (made from chickpeas) and tzatziki (a blend of cucumber, garlic, and yogurt) served with whole-grain pita bread (if available) or vegetable dippers. These cuisines also employ plenty of fresh herbs and seasonings, so eating right is delicious and satisfying."

Dr Gary Brownstein and his wife Sidney, are amongst the first returning Patrons of the former Athens Cafe who have been enjoying Kuzina's excellent fare and atmosphere. Pictured here are Dr & Mrs Brownstein on the first day of business for Kuzina by sofia.
